The Web Test Team is a diverse and dynamic team in the JMP R&D Department. We collaborate in an agile environment with multiple teams, such as the DevOps team, different development teams, the production management team, as well as other testing teams across the globe to ensure the quality and the successful release of all JMP products and applications with a focus on the web. We achieve it through both manual and automated testing. While doing so, we constantly seek ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our processes by utilizing a broad spectrum of readily available as well as in-house developed technologies, tools and processes, from test automation frameworks to different systems running different Operating Systems, from test suite development to various cloud platforms; we are passionate about technologies and strive to produce the best JMP products.

 

As an intern in the JMP R&D DevOps Test Engineering Team, you might:  

  • Gain hands on experience working with cutting edge statistical applications and technologies, JMP Desktop and JMP Live.
  • Utilize various desktop, web and cloud technologies across different platforms and systems to help shape the future of JMP products.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of an automation framework, test suites and tools to improve the software and application quality.
  • Work, learn and grow within a fun, supportive and engaging environment along with the brightest minds in the industry.

Test Automation Intern Responsibilities:

As a JMP Live Test Automation Intern, you will be involved in the testing and quality assurance of our JMP Live product, ensuring a seamless user experience. You will work closely with our automation team to develop and execute automated tests, as well as collaborate with developers to identify issues early in the software development lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  1. Test Case Development: Collaborate with senior testers and developers to create detailed test cases that reflect the product's functionalities and edge cases.
  2. Automation Framework: Assist in maintaining and expanding the automation framework by developing scripts, programs, and tools that automate routine test cases, improving overall efficiency.
  3. JMP Live Feature Testing: Conduct both manual and automated tests for new features, ensuring they meet specified requirements and function across different environments.
  4. Collaboration and Communication: Work in close coordination with the development, QA, and automation teams to provide feedback and suggest improvements based on test results.
  5. Documentation: Participate in drafting, creating, and updating test documentation and reports that outline the results of the testing efforts, recommendations for improvements, as well as new automation tools and framework functionalities.

 

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of a programming language.
  • Fundamental knowledge of general programming concepts and debugging.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS selectors.
  • Basic knowledge of a version control system.
  • Good communication skills, critical thinking skills, and team player.
  • Passionate about technology.
  • You’re an undergraduate college student enrolled in an accredited program, not graduating prior to December 2025.  
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree studying Computer Science, Software Development, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or other related technical field from an accredited university.
  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty.  
  • Be comfortable with a certain degree of ambiguity. A successful intern can create specific actions and paths from ambiguous goals and requirements.   
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.

Nice to Haves

  • Programming Knowledge/Experience (e.g., JavaScript, Java).
  • Understanding of Software Testing and Concepts (unit, integration, regression).
  • Familiarity with Automation Tools (e.g., Selenium).
  • Problem-Solving Skills for troubleshooting code and possible network/software issues, as well as test scenario creation.

 

  Timeline

  • Applications open: October 2024  (additional internship positions will be posted through March 2025)
  • Interviews begin: October 2024 on a rolling basis.
  • Internship: May 20 – August 8, 2025. If your university is on a quarter system, we can be flexible on start date.

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS/JMP internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph.D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonus.
